Rosati's Pizza

Location: 1339 S. Halsted St., Chicago, IL 60607
Rosati's Pizza on Urbanspoon

A Quick Word:
When Reggio's Pizza closed, I was wondering what would take their space.  After a few months, another pizza place began renovating the old space... it was Rosati's Pizza.  Before they opened, I had never heard of this pizza joint despite the dozens of locations in the suburbs.  Anyway, the pizza here is just average... nothing to memorable, but definitely a place to satisfy a craving.  The thin crust pizza is much better, but unfortunately, they don't offer thin or deep dish crusts for pizza by the slice.  The prices here are not very student friendly, especially when ordering the "slice of the day."  For those reasons, I decided on giving Rosati's a 3 mile rating.

What We Ate:

Pizza by the Slice
(Sausage, Pepperoni, Spinach & Mushroom, Buffalo Chicken)

Finally, a pizza by the slice in the UIC area that is not Reggio's Pizza.  Rosati's offers four different types of pizza by the slice, including the staples of cheese, pepperoni, and sausage.  The fourth type of pizza is a rotating topping that changes each day.  In terms of overall quality, Rosati's pizza is just OK.  The crust is nothing special, and in fact, it is more chewy and tough than anything.  The toppings are generously laid on, but there is also a layer of oil that can make anyone nauseous.

The prices range from reasonable to OUTRAGEOUS.  The first time I bought pizza, I decided on the specialty slice.  It was $4.50 without a drink or $5.00 with a can of pop.  This price is ridiculous when you can order a slice of pizza the size of your head at Damenzo's or a double slice at Taylor Made Pizza.  The other price are more reasonable ranging from $2.50 to $3.00 depending on if you get meat or not.

The DOs/DON'Ts:
DO:
- They are open late, which is a plus, so definitely check them out for late night meal.
- Be aware of pricing for specialty slice.

DON'T:
- n/a

How far would I walk for this food?

  1. Pizza is a lifelong comfort food, that tops the list and that's not even up for a debate. Undisputed winner right here... anytime of the day or night..

  2. It takes years to develop the taste of your food in customers and suddenly its not a good thing to switch the business place. Because customers are also familiar with the taste and they might miss it.
